"The year was 1950, and things were about to change in the realm of horror. But before it does, the Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper take one last look over the landscape they’ve traversed so far by offering up Fritz Lang’s forgotten 1950 noir, ‘House by the River’. Involving all the moving parts that makes up a film noir, from misplaced shadows to disjointed angles, as well as morally grey characters, House by the River ends a long chapter of psychologically driven horror that Lang and his contemporaries made famous before the atomic age monsters came crawling out of the nuclear muck. Follow along as the Phantom and his skeletal companion quickly touch on noir and one of its most popular tropes, the simple plan gone awry.
