From horrorphilia.com-
"During the decade of the 1940s, horror was on shaky ground. Universal Studios was still the bright, shining beacon, but even they couldn’t carry the weight of what they created in the 1930s. Studios cropped up everywhere, as we’ve seen from Poverty Row, while backlots on other major studios began to form. One of those studios, RKO, would reap the greatest rewards when they put one man, Val Lewton, in charge of their horror unit. Behind Lewton, goofy titles like Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie were turned into clinics in atmospheric, character-driven horror, as opposed to the action and effects-laden films from Universal. One of his films, Isle of the Dead, is brought out of the vault by the Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper, as they explore the once-tenuous relationship between Lewton and Boris Karloff that eventually turned into one of horror’s greatest partnerships.
Meanwhile, the contest is still on! Get your top horror picks in for the decade of the 1940s, and your name will be entered for a special prize! What is it? You’ll have to listen to find out! Win or lose, your suggestions will be read on the show.
