DC Universe Online Community News: First Look At Earth Powers!

From dcuniverseonline.com-

When The Battle For Earth begins, the new Earth powerset will be on the frontlines. Based in part on heroes and villains like Terra and Geo-Force, these powers over earth allow you to command the forces of rock, dirt, sand, and crystal. Shape them into mighty pets and weapons of stone with the Geokinesis tree, and shake the world around you with the terrible power of earthquakes, aftershocks, and tremors in the Seismic tree. With the Earth itself at your call, few will be able to stand against you.

Geokinesis
Geokinesis powers focus your ability to shape earth and rock, allowing you to both hurt your enemies and shield your allies. Summon pet golems to bolster your Tanking or Damage duties, build totems to put the environment on your side, or call down all kinds of rock, dirt, and even meteors from the sky to lay waste to your enemies. If taking control of the very earth you're standing on sounds appealing, then Geokinesis has the powers for you.
Here's a brief sample of some of the powers you'll find in the Geokinesis tree:
Earthen Grip – The most basic of the Geokinesis powers, this ability grabs your enemy with a hand of earth, stunning them and dragging them toward you. Trust us, this hand hits like a ten ton boulder.
Crystal Golem – This first pet is crafted from crystals buried deep within the earth, and will naturally bring some serious hurt to your enemies. Use it in conjunction with abilities like Damage Shift and Totem to take tanking to a whole new level.
Damage Shift – When the battle gets intense, transfer a portion of your incoming damage to your summoned golem, buying yourself and your healers the time you need to survive and take down any threats.
Totem – Now that your golem is taking your hits for you, return the favor by conjuring an earth totem nearby. The totem will heal any nearby golems.
Reinforce – Of course, Geokinesis isn't just about you and your golems. When someone who's not you is taking a beating, turn your fists to rock and pummel your unwise opponent. You'll also protect a group member by transferring a portion of their incoming damage to you.

Seismic
If you assumed that Seismic powers mirror the devastating power of earthquakes and grant you the awesome ability to call forth tremors that blast and shake the world around you, well, you've got it exactly right! On top of that, many Seismic powers also come with Aftershock, which allows you to recast them multiple times for far less power and with additional bonuses by tapping melee directly following the initial cast. If blowing apart the earth around you, and your enemies with it, sounds like something you might enjoy, Seismic powers are your answer.

Here's a taste of the many ways you can rumble with the Seismic tree:
Localized Tremor – Use your powers to shake the ground around you, damaging and potentially knocking down your enemies.
Upheaval – Launch a wave of destructive energy that causes a violent dust storm, damaging enemies and pushing them back. Use aftershocks to create larger storms that increase your damage potential or your damage absorption.
Earthquake – Tear open the earth beneath your enemies to wreak widespread destruction and inflict burning. Use aftershocks to ramp up the damage.
Tectonic Break – Harness the unstoppable power of the earth's plates crushing into each other, blasting rock pillars into nearby enemies.
Epicenter – As everyone knows, the epicenter is the most violent location in an earthquake, and…
Well, you get the idea. Don't worry, though! There's a lot more than just catastrophic damage in the Seismic tree, but you'll have to wait to find out what until you log in on March 13th or March 14th when The Battle For Earth begins!
