Quick update from my story from yesterday. As you may know, Nintendo Of Japan has discontinued the 'Splatoon' Amiibo 3-Pack. No word on if Nintendo of America will do the same. Also, Nintendo shares rose 8.3 percent, the most since March 19, to 22,195 yen in Tokyo. Net income was 8.28 billion yen ($67 million American). This is being attributed to both Splatoon and amiibo sales. So, needless to say, expect to see a lot more of both coming. Nintendo is not losing this generation's console war, but they are not wining it either. I think this is the reason for their approach to amiibo. They took a big risk with the Wii U. A risk that did not pay off. Wii U sales are finally starting to catch up. But Wii U will never be the smash hit Wii was. I don't think Nintendo expected amiibo to be the smash hit it has become. Let's hope by Christmas season this year they have everything sorted out.
