"Hello and welcome to episode 162! This week we talk about the Japanese mockumentary ‘Big Man Japan’. There are tons of spoilers in this one, since it would be impossible to discuss without going over the story. Unfortunately, a lot of the satire and humor is lost in translation. We also read a lot of reviews that agreed it’s hard to understand the movie unless you have lived in Japan and understand life in post war Japan. This being said, we both really enjoyed the journey that was this movie; many subtle bits of humor, a little bit of sadness, and a whole lot of craziness as far as the monsters were concerned. Short topics this week include ‘Pacific Rim’, the new TV series ‘Crossing Lines’, the ‘Silent Hill 4′ video game, and how ‘Beware the Batman’ replaced Lori’s beloved ‘Green Lantern’. In this hilarious mockumentary, middle-aged Daisato (Hitoshi Matsumoto) — a second-rate, third-generation superhero — annoys his neighbors with the noise and destruction he causes on the job. But a heroic public image is the least of his concerns. Besides defending Japan from bizarre monsters, he must deal with an agent seeking to brand him with ads, a superhero grandfather with Alzheimer’s and a family embarrassed by his incompetence."
