Blast off to the moon with the Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper as they cover our final feature of the Roaring 20s, “The Woman in the Moon”. It’s a subtle expressionist tale of a man throwing all his chips in one hat on a scientist’s belief that gold exists on the moon. When evil special interests interfere with the mission, things get a bit hairy. Mostly sci-fi and melodrama with small ounces of horror, it’s a film that shows Fritz Lang at his subdued best and highlights the parallel tracks that science fiction and horror would travel along over the last 8 decades. Listen to the Phantom Erik try his best to skim over the long and winding road of the history of space exploration and its portrayal in films, from its early fantastical days to the dark and nihilistic visions of recent years.
